Massage
Swedish massage supplies a firm but gentle pressure to increase circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and facilitate relaxation. Five movements are employed: long and gliding strokes, kneading of individual muscles, friction, tapping, and vibration. Faceworks uses a body oil to ensure making long, smooth strokes during the massage. The person is covered by a sheet and undraped as the various areas are treated.
A pregnancy massage helps the expectant mother relax. Relief from muscle cramps, spasms, and myofascial pain, especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs is facilitated. Swelling can be reduced as blood and lymph circulation are increased. This is very healthy for the weight-bearing joints, and will help to ease labor pain. The skin and underlying tissues are made more pliable. Deep tissue massage provides support for the new mother with the physical and emotional strains of mothering.
